Learning a Foreign Language - Cactus Language

Every Christmas, new surveys are undertaken asking what the public would like to achieve in the new year. What will be their new year's resolution? The most popular ones rarely change. Firstly, many people want to give up smoking. What was cool at school suddenly seems less cool as lung infections become a reality and premature death something that actually plays on one's mind. Secondly, people want a new job. Again, we all have moments when we hate our boss and want to do something entirely different with the bulk of our waking hours. Finally, people wish to learn a new language. Of the three, this is undoubtedly the easiest to instigate.

If you want to learn a new language, the first step is to decide how you wish to study. If, for example, you want to learn Spanish, there are a number of options open to you. You can take classes at a local language school, either as part of a group or individually. The advantage of group classes is that you get to meet people with at least one thing in common and therefore an easy topic of discussion. The advantage of individual classes is that you get tailored teaching which should lead to faster progress. This is true with whichever language you are studying, whether you wish to learn Spanish, learn French or learn Italian.

Studying at a local school is the option taken by the majority of learners in the UK. This is because classes can be scheduled around work and family commitments. Also British people are generally lacking in language skills so it is difficult to find anyone outside the language teaching community in a position to help you study.

The other popular option is to take a language class overseas. While more expensive in the short term, longer courses of language training can often work out considerably cheaper when taken in another country, particularly with the consistent strength of the Pound. Choosing to learn Spanish in Mexico, for example, offers the perfect opportunity to explore a unique culture and meet some of the friendliest people you will find anywhere on the planet. People all across the Spanish speaking world love the Mexican accent.

Closer to home, courses to learn French in France and learn German in Germany are great excuses for a week or two away from the rainy British Isles with the added bonus of an educational element that is not to be found in most holidays. The large European cities such as Munich, Berlin and Paris are popular locations for these kinds of courses. They are also great destinations for short continental breaks, taking advantage of cheap flights.
